Baodingshan features grand, narrative-style carvings in a U-shaped valley—a unified "stone Bible" created by one monk with dramatic, large-scale sculptures like the Thousand-Hand Guanyin. Beishan offers more delicate, intimate artistry with detailed miniature statues, refined craftsmanship, and ancient inscriptions—a quieter, more contemplative experience.
The tour involves walking on cliffside pathways with some stairs at both sites. Baodingshan has well-maintained paths, and Beishan's crescent-shaped cliff requires moderate walking. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, and the pace is adjustable—your guide will accommodate your group's fitness level.
Yes, photography is allowed at both sites. Flash photography is not permitted to protect the ancient sculptures. Your guide can point out the best angles and viewpoints for capturing the carvings' intricate details and dramatic cliffside settings.
Bring your passport (required for ticketing), comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and a camera. Carry a light jacket in cooler seasons, as the Dazu area is at a slightly higher elevation than central Chongqing.
