It's a fascinating cliffside residential complex built into the hillside, with multiple layers of interconnected walkways, corridors, and staircases. It perfectly showcases Chongqing's "vertical city" character—where homes are stacked on top of each other, and neighbors navigate through a maze of elevated passageways. It's a real working-class neighborhood, not a tourist re-creation.
Ciqikou retains a lively, lived-in atmosphere with real daily activity—tea houses, local food stalls, and working shops rather than just museum-style displays. It's also perched along the Jialing River, offering beautiful water views that many ancient towns don't have.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as the tour involves some stair climbing. Lightweight, breathable clothing works well in warmer months, while a light jacket is advisable in spring and autumn. If rain is expected, an umbrella or raincoat is helpful.
