FAQ

Common Questions

What kind of scenery can I expect along the journey?

The landscape changes dramatically as the journey progresses. Erhai Lake and Bai villages give way to Lijiang’s mountain scenery, then deep river valleys, alpine grasslands, snow-covered peaks and glaciers. It feels less like visiting one region and more like watching Yunnan change character day by day.

Will I have time to experience local Bai and Tibetan culture?

Yes. The itinerary introduces two very different cultural landscapes. In Dali, you can encounter Bai traditions through Zhoucheng’s indigo tie-dye culture and historic villages. Further north, Tibetan Buddhist culture becomes part of the journey through Songzanlin Monastery, Dukezong Ancient Town and local Tibetan communities.

Will the long drives make the trip tiring?

There are a few long mountain drives, especially toward Shangri-La and Meili Snow Mountain. But the views keep changing, and scenic stops break up the journey—sometimes the road itself becomes part of the adventure.

How much free time is included in the ancient towns?

The itinerary balances guided sightseeing with time to wander. Dali Ancient Town, Lijiang Ancient Town, Baisha, Shuhe and Dukezong each have their own atmosphere, so you can browse small shops, try local food or simply wander the old streets rather than rushing from one landmark to another.

Is the Tiger Leaping Gorge High Trail suitable for first-time hikers?

Absolutely. You don’t need to be an experienced hiker to enjoy the trail—just take it at your own pace and let the scenery set the rhythm. With the Jinsha River rushing below and dramatic cliffs and mountains unfolding around you, even the famous 28 Bends becomes part of the story. And when you finally turn around, the view might just make you forget your tired legs.
