The Stone Forest scenic area covers a large area, but the main walking route is about 2-3 kilometers on paved, flat paths. The pace is entirely flexible, and there are rest stops along the way.
Jiuxiang involves descending stairs into underground caves and walking on uneven stone paths. It may be challenging for those with significant mobility limitations. Your guide can assess conditions on the day.
The Stone Forest (Shilin) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 270-million-year-old limestone formations that resemble a forest of stone pillars. It is sacred to the Sani Yi people and hosts an annual Torch Festival.
Lunch is not included, giving you full flexibility. Your guide will recommend a genuine local restaurant near the Stone Forest or Jiuxiang and help you order authentic Yunnan dishes.
The Stone Forest is about 85 kilometers southeast of Kunming, roughly a 1.5-hour drive. Jiuxiang is another 40 minutes further. The total driving time is around 3.5 hours round trip.
