Tour Highlights

A guide who makes the museum make sense — not just walk you through it

From Li bark cloth to Maritime Silk Road porcelain, from overseas Chinese letters to old Hainan photos — your guide strings 2,000 years into one story you'll actually remember.

Movie Town is more than photo ops — your guide explains the architecture

Qilou arcades, carved balconies, shikumen gates — your guide breaks down where each style came from and how it matches real old Haikou.

Haikou Bay sunset walk — watch the sky turn gold to indigo

Stroll the waterfront at golden hour as the sun paints the sea. Your guide tells how this coastline changed from a fishing port to the city's signature skyline.

Night cruise on Haikou Bay — city lights from the water

Sail out and look back at Haikou's lit skyline. Your guide points out each landmark — the Century Bridge, the clock tower, the landmarks along the bay.

A full day of culture, cinema, and coastal views. Morning at Hainan Provincial Museum where your guide weaves a narrative from Li ancestors to the Maritime Silk Road, from overseas Chinese migration to Hainan's founding. Afternoon at Feng Xiaogang Movie Town, wandering Republic-era and Nanyang streets while your guide explains the architecture and what old Haikou was really like. Evening brings a Haikou Bay sunset walk and a night cruise with city lights reflecting on the water, followed by hotel drop-off.

Mission Hills Feng Xiaogang Movie Town

attraction

Spend the afternoon at Feng Xiaogang Movie Town, where three streets transport you to different eras — 1942 shikumen alleys, Nanyang qilou arcades, and old Beijing hutong courtyards. Your guide doesn't just say which films were shot here — they point out the architecture and explain it. Why Nanyang qilou looks the way it does, where shikumen came from, what kinds of shops lined old Haikou's streets. You take photos while you listen — your pictures aren't just pretty, you know the stories behind them.

Haikou Bay Seaside Walk (Sunset)

attraction

Arrive at Haikou Bay in the late afternoon and stroll the waterfront promenade. The sun sinks slowly, painting the sea gold, then tangerine, then deep violet. Your guide tells how this coastline changed — a small fishing port thirty years ago, now Haikou's most beautiful skyline. Find a good spot to stop, snap some sunset photos, and rest with the sea breeze.

Highlights

  • Stroll Haikou Bay promenade as the sun paints the sea from gold to tangerine
  • Find a great spot, breathe the sea air, and capture the sunset

Board the cruise boat and head out onto the water, looking back at Haikou Bay. Lights flicker on along the shore, the Century Bridge draws a glowing line across the water, and building silhouettes look sharp against the night sky. Your guide stands with you on deck, pointing things out — the HNA tower, the old clock tower, how long it took to build the Century Bridge. Sea wind on your face, boat moving slowly — you see the city from an entirely different angle.

FAQ

Common Questions

How much walking is there at the museum? Will it be tiring?

The museum visit takes about 2 hours, with seating areas available anytime you want to rest. The museum is air-conditioned and comfortable. Your guide paces the tour — focusing on key artifacts and skimming the rest — so you won't be standing the whole time. It's suitable for seniors and children alike.

Is Movie Town good for photos? Will the guide help take pictures?

Absolutely — three streets with three distinct styles make it a photographer's dream: Republican-era, Nanyang colonial. Your guide knows all the best angles, will lead you to the most photogenic spots, and is happy to take group photos. We recommend wearing plain, muted clothes for that authentic period look.

Is the night cruise cold? Will I get seasick?

Evening sea breeze can feel cooler than on shore, so bring a light jacket. The boat is a large, stable sightseeing vessel — most people don't feel seasick at all. If you're prone to motion sickness, take medication beforehand; your guide also carries some. There are both indoor seating and open deck areas — you choose.

How far is the museum from Movie Town? Are there places to rest in between?

The museum is in urban Haikou and Movie Town is at Mission Hills, about a 25-minute drive. You can rest in the car on the way, and there's also time to relax after lunch. Both sites have plenty of seating — rest areas on every floor of the museum, and tea houses and cafés throughout Movie Town. Sit down whenever you need to.

What if it rains? Will the tour be canceled?

Light rain is fine — most of the museum and Movie Town are sheltered, and the night cruise has indoor seating. For heavy rain or typhoon weather, we'll contact you in advance to reschedule or adjust the itinerary — adding more indoor time, or swapping the seaside walk for a mall or Qilou Old Street visit. You won't waste the day.
